Something DifferentOn this page you will find some of our artists' more unusual and interesting works. Hand Painted Byzantine Style Icons by Zad Jabbour These beautiful paintings are Zad's recreations of original Byzantine style icons. The word 'icon' is from the Greek, meaning an image that stands for an object by representing it. Icons have been important from the early days of Christianity, particularly in eastern Christian religions. There are few artists in this field anywhere in the world. Here is a rare chance to own a stunningly beautiful symbol of the Christian religion. Click on the images below for more information. Painted Velvet New Zealand Native Birds by Fifi Colston
Fifi's hand made painted velvet NZ birds are a unique and head turning style of art. Since Fifi came up with the idea and started making them in 2007, these artworks have proved an instant hit. Her initial public exhibition in Wellington was sold out. 'Velvet Resurrection' is Fifi Colston's revival of the (nearly) lost art of painting on velvet. She describes the process as 'Curiously seductive; each stroke is like a caress. Each piece is hand cut from 5mm board, covered in velvet and backed with hand stitched black felt. A brass ring is sewn onto the back for hanging purposes. Acrylic and Airbrush on velvet.
