'Muted Undertones' by Miranda Woollett

Upper Hutt artist Miranda Woollett has been a significant figure in the Wellington art community for many years.  Her exhibition runs until 10 June (right a segment from Miranda's  'Kowhai World View')

'Muted Undertones

"In these paintings I have used incredibly small increments of colour, tonal changes and detailing to enter into the beauty of darkness and ‘between the particles of light’ by way of blackened muted undertones." - Miranda Woollett

Miranda's paintings are a complex interplay of light, shadows and forms all interacting to create subtle and vibrant images.  I hope you can visit to fully appreciate the delicate balance and dances of light that make Miranda's art so intriguing. See the exhibition on the website Current Exhibition page

New Art

New art this month includes Iwen Yong's third version of an Island Bay sunset. This one at 900mm x 600mm is smaller than the first two, one metre square, but equally evocative of the south coast. The water and underwater rocks in the foreground  are totally mesmerising.

From Vincent Duncan I've collected from him an older painting that's only been shown on the gallery website. It's proving a big hit with visitors, see View from Mt Vic 2

Please click on the images below for more details, 'Island Bay Sunset No 3' by Iwen Yong, Pollock inspired  'Summer's Twilight Easter Island Portal' by Richard Childs' and 'Summer Boatsheds' by Jill Sutton

For fans of Heimler and Proc there is on display in the gallery a selection from their recent exhibition including one of the centrepiece works 'Raumati Rondelay'
